YouTube Search Themes - Python Code Explanation
Goal of the Script
This Python module defines search queries organized by research themes.
The search themes are used by the YouTube API search and classification
workflow to retrieve videos related to Bangladesh minority issues and
related topics.
Code Description
The script creates a dictionary called SEARCH_THEMES.
Each theme contains a list of targeted search phrases that can be submitted
to the YouTube API to retrieve relevant videos.
Search Themes
The search queries are organized into the following themes:
-
Hindu Community - searches related to Bangladesh Hindu
communities, attacks, and persecution.
-
Christian Community - searches related to Bangladesh
Christian communities and attacks.
-
Buddhist Community - searches related to Bangladesh
Buddhist communities and attacks.
-
Indigenous Peoples - searches related to indigenous
communities and attacks.
-
Temples and Religious Sites - searches involving temples,
churches, monasteries, pagodas, vandalism, and attacks on religious sites.
-
ISKCON - searches related to ISKCON Bangladesh.
-
Land Grabbing - searches related to land grabbing and
minority property issues.
-
Communal Violence - searches related to communal violence
and minority violence.
-
Minority Rights - searches related to minority rights and
religious freedom.
-
Blasphemy Allegations - searches related to blasphemy cases,
allegations, social media accusations, and related incidents.
-
Forced Conversion - searches related to forced conversion,
forced marriage, and abduction.
-
Election Violence - searches related to election-related
violence affecting minorities.
-
Durga Puja - searches related to Durga Puja attacks,
violence, and vandalism.
Search Query Generation
The script also creates an optional flattened list called
SEARCH_QUERIES. This list combines all individual search
phrases from every theme into a single collection that can be used for
automated searching.
Use in the YouTube Classification Workflow
This module is designed to be imported by a larger YouTube API program.
The importing program can use the organized themes to perform targeted
searches, retrieve videos, and classify content using additional keyword
lists and classification rules.
Summary
This script provides a structured approach for collecting YouTube content
by research theme. Organizing search phrases into categories improves
search coverage, makes queries easier to maintain, and supports automated
video retrieval and classification workflows.
